NMI preps for Memorial Day rites
The CNMI will be celebrating Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2014, at 9am at the CNMI Veterans Cemetery. The Veterans Affairs director and its committee will be paying tribute to our fallen heroes and is inviting the immediate families to join with the community in paying tribute to them. The immediate family is being asked to call the Veterans Affairs Office for details at 664-2650/2659 or 287-5351. (PR)
Memorial Week proclamation signing
The Office of the Governor and the Veterans Affairs Office has scheduled a Memorial Week proclamation signing on Monday, May 19, 2014, 10am, at the Office of the Governor’s conference room. All veterans, active and reserved military personnel, family members of those departed veterans, and the general public are invited to come and join this proclamation signing. (PR)
Do Re Mi Music School sets Annual Concert
The Do Re Mi Music School is having its 22nd Annual Concert on May 9 and 10, from 7pm to 9pm each evening at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Tickets are available by calling 233-7777 and will also be available at the door: $10 for adults and $5 for children. The concert will include pieces from Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Wentawski and Mendelssohn, among others. (PR)
MHS seniors’ schedule of events
- Service Learning due May 23, 2014, to your counselor.
- Senior Portfolio due June 6, 2014, to your first period teacher. If you do not have first period, submit it to your counselor. (Service Learning Hours must be included in your portfolio)
- Cap and gowns can be picked up during weekdays 7:30am-8:30am and 3pm-4pm. If you did not place an order and want to try to purchase one, see Ms. Tudela on May 9, 2014, at 7:30am. It will be on a first come, first served basis.
- Last day for seniors is on June 6, 2014
- Graduation practices will be from June 9 to 11, 2014 at 8:30am in the school gym.
- Awards ceremony will be on Friday, June 13, 2014, at 9am, in the school gym. Seniors who are interested in applying for awards must turn in their résumé, which will include the highlights of their high school career. Résumés must be submitted by May 23, 2014, to Ms. Cabrera. Awards: Governor’s Award, Mayor’s Award, Outstanding Female Graduate, Principal’s Award, U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete’s Award, U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, and Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence
- Graduation will be on Monday, June 16, 2014, at 4pm in the school gym (graduates are asked to be there by 3pm).

Air Force, Navy training on FDM, Warning Area 517
The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on May 6 and 8, from 9am to 3pm. The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on May 7, from 12:30pm to 8:30pm.
The general public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators—are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants. W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. (PR)
