SHEFA application period opens

The Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program is now accepting applications for fall 2021. Deadline for the fall 2021 application only is July 1, 2021. You may pick up an application at our office or you may get one from the SHEFA website at www.saipanshefa.net. (PR)

5.0-magnitude quake in Marianas region

At 9:01am on May 3, 2021, a report of a 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred at 17.927°N 147.088°E in the Marianas region. Currently, there are no tsunami warnings, or advisories that were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. (PR)

4.3-magnitude quake northwest of Saipan

At 1:23pm on May 1, 2021, a report of a 4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred 64 kilometers northwest of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. Currently, there are no tsunami warnings or advisories issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.  (PR)

BECQ sets beach cleanup on May 8

The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality Beach Cleanup will be picking up trash at Makaka Beach on May 8, 2021, from 8am to 10am. If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify our island, meet the BECQ representatives on Saturday between the ABC store and the casino at 7:45am. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am. Bring reusable water bottles. For more information about volunteering, contact the BECQ at 664-8500/1. (PR)

Guam PTAC sets free webinars on federal contracting

The Guam Procurement Technical Assistance Center is offering free live webinars in May. Webinars run from 10am to 11:30am and will be conducted via Zoom. Links to the live webinar and the webinar evaluation will be emailed to all registered attendees 15 minutes before the start of the webinar.
May 6 – DUNS & SAM: If you want to be a Federal contractor/vendor, you need to get a DUNS number and register in SAM. We will show you how to register your business in these two systems as well as how to make sure your annual re-certification is seamless.

May 13 – Federal Contract Opportunities: Beta.sam.gov is the portal for Federal Contract Opportunities. We will show you how to setup an account and how to use the search filters to ensure you do not miss any opportunities.

May 20 – PIEE/WAWF: Department of Defense vendors use the Wide-Area Workflow module in the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment system to create, submit, and track their invoices. We will show you how to setup an account and submit an invoice so you get paid on time.

May 27 – Cybersecurity: The Department of Defense is requiring cybersecurity certification for vendors. We will discuss the best way to comply with DOD’s requirement. The upcoming Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification and the DFARS Interim Rule will be discussed.
