NMPASI closed half-day today

The Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy Systems Inc. will be closed today, May 21, 2018, from 8am to 1:30pm for professional development. (PR)

Military trainings

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the following locations during the dates and times indicated:

-Former Adm. Nimitz golf course: May 21 from 9am to 11:55pm
-Warning Area 517: May 21-23 from 9am to 10pm
-Farallon de Medinilla: May 21 and 23 from 9am to 9pm.

These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. The public should be advised that routine helicopter training often accompanied with the use of blanks can occur throughout the week in areas of the former Adm. Nimitz golf course and Andersen South.

W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00”N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island.

It is recommended the general public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. (PR)

Call for submissions: Memorial Day tribute

Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan invites veterans, service members, military family members, and members of the community to participate in a special Memorial Day video tribute honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the nation’s armed forces, as well as those who passed away after service. Photographs, videos, and visual artwork rare welcome. Submissions will be accepted up to May 23, and should include the names, dates of birth and death, branch of service, rank, unit, any operation or conflict served, as well as a brief message of remembrance, up to 75 words.
