Govt employees get admin leave today

As the CNMI observes the 72nd Liberation Day, all non-critical government employees are being granted administrative leave today, July 3, 2017, from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

In a memo issued Friday, acting governor Victor B. Hocog said: “Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and I hope that you join us for the festivities on July 4th, and we encourage you all to continue celebrating our cultures, our community, and our service to one another.” (Saipan Tribune)

SHEFA application deadline today

For all new, ongoing and returning applicants, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program is now accepting applications for fall 2017. Application deadline is today, July 3, 2017, and deadline to submit all supporting documents is on Sept. 30, 2017. Application and checklist can be downloaded from www.saipanshefa.net. Chamber meeting on July 5

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will have its general membership meeting on Wednesday, July 5, at the Seaside Hall, Kanoa Resort, featuring Marian Aldan-Pierce, district president of DFS and board member of the Northern Marianas Business Alliance Corp. She will discuss the need for collective documentation that outlines the efforts to recruit and train U.S. eligible workers as well as other factors that have affected hiring practices in the CNMI. Also speaking are representatives of the CNMI State Rehabilitation Council. Luncheon will be served at 11:30am, and the meeting will begin at noon. (PR)

Garapan Fishing Base boat ramp closed temporarily

The Garapan Fishing Base boat ramp and its parking facility will be closed to all vessels until Wednesday July 5, 2017. This is to provide access and parking to Liberation Festival patrons. Use the Smiling Cove Marina boat ramp at this time. For questions, call 664-6000. (PR)

Lower Base transfer station, Marpi landfill closed on July 4

In observance of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, both the Lower Base transfer station and the Marpi landfill will be closed all day. Regular operations resume Wednesday, July 5, 2017. (PR)

Military training at Farallon de Medinilla

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on July 5, from 2pm to 9pm. It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. Farallon de Medinilla, located in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, supports aircrew combat readiness training. (PR)

Family grief support group to meet on July 6

The Compassionate Friends of Saipan will be holding their monthly grief support meeting on Thursday, July 6, from 6pm to 7:30pm, in the NMPASI conference room on Middle Road, in Gualo Rai.

The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others to be supportive.
