Free public commenting workshops
U.S. Fish & Wildlife and NOAA Fisheries are soliciting for public comments for the Mariana Trench Marine National Monument draft management plan. Last day to submit comments is July 26, 2021 (Saipan local time).
To assist you with your comments, the Friends of the Mariana Trench is hosting public commenting workshops on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 5pm to 7pm and Tuesday and Thursday during lunch from 11am to 1pm at the MANGO office, Springs Plaza, Middle Road, Gualo Rai until July 23, 2021

Free webinar on effects of sexual violence on the brain and body
The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, in collaboration with the CNMI Sexual Assault Response Team, will be hosting a free webinar called “Becoming Trauma Informed: Understanding the Effects of Sexual Violence on the Brain and Body” on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 8:45am to 12pm via Zoom.
The webinar will feature a presentation by Dr. Jim Hopper, a clinical psychologist and teaching associate in psychology at Harvard Medical School with over 25 years of clinical and consulting work focused on the psychological and biological effects of sexual assault, child abuse, and other traumatic experiences.

5.3-magnitude quake in Guam
At 7:51pm on July 14, 2021, a report of a 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred 166 KM southwest of Merizo Village, Guam. Currently, no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. For more information, contact the CNMI EOC State Warning Point at 237-8000. (PR)
A Walk to Remember on July 22
July is annually recognized as Bereaved Parents Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness of the support necessary when one endures the loss of a child. This month is a time for supporting our friends and loved ones who have experienced child loss, no matter the amount of years that have gone by.
The Group “We Remember Them CNMI” will be hosting a “Walk to Remember” on Thursday, July 22, at 5pm. We will meet at the pavilion next to The Shack Restaurant. Water will be provided. Please feel free to bring a picture of your child. For details, call or text Donna Krum at 783-1900. (PR)
Comments sought on Saipan Neighborhood Watch
The 16th Saipan & Northern Islands Municipal Council is soliciting public comments on a planned Saipan Neighborhood Watch Program via a series of town hall meetings on Saipan from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
The meetings are scheduled as follows:
– July 20, 2021—Tanapag Social Hall (across Sta. Remedios Church);
– July 22, 2021—San Vicente Youth Park;
– July 27, 2021—Koblerville Youth Center; and
– July 29, 2021—GTC Elementary School.
