Chamber to name BPOY on Saturday
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be selecting on Jan. 19 one of eight nominees the 2018 Business Person of the Year at the annual gala at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom.
The nominees are Gloria Cavanaugh of Pacific Islands Club Saipan; John Hirsh of the American Red Cross Northern Mariana Islands Chapter; Nola Hix of Xerox Corp; Glen Hunter of The Shack; James Lee of Marpac, Inc.; Velma Palacios of IT&E; Ron Smith of Angil Design; and Janice Tenorio of IT&E.
Along with “Business Person of the Year,” the event will also recognize the “2018 Saipan Young Professional” of the year as well as the Installation of the 2019 board of directors.
Seats to the event are limited and available for advance purchase for $100 per person.

Humanities awards on Jan. 24
The Northern Marianas Humanities Council will be hosting the 21st Governor’s Humanities Awards at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant on Thursday, Jan. 24, starting at 11am. (PR)
AMP Visitor Center returns to daily operations
Thanks to a donation by its partner, Pacific Historic Parks, the visitor center and bookstore at the American Memorial Park will return to daily operations, but remain on the current schedule of 9:30am to 4pm.
At the same time, park roads, walking paths, memorials, and tennis courts at the AMP will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency services will be limited.
These adjusted dates and times are subject to change throughout the duration of the federal government shutdown. National Park Service social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions.
Despite the shutdown of the federal government due to the lapse of appropriations, national parks will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures. For updates on the shutdown, visit www.doi.gov/shutdown. (NPS)
Lunar New Year party in the CNMI on Feb. 5
To mark the Lunar New Year, the Marianas Visitors Authority and community partners will hold an evening Lunar New Year Party on Feb. 5, 2019.
The evening will include live entertainment and food sales from 6pm to 10pm at Paseo de Marianas pedestrian mall in downtown Garapan.
Entertainment will include performances by the Chinese community, Korean community, the Chamorro community, and other groups.
The pedestrian mall will be decorated with traditional Korea and Chinese lamps. The event is co-organized by the Chinese Association, the Korean Community of Saipan, and the MVA.
