Emergency water service interruption in Gualo Rai

There is currently an emergency water service interr
uption in effect for the Gualo Rai area for customers in the streets of Chalan Pale Arnold (near Chongs Refrigeration to the Gualo Rai Road traffic light) and Gualo Rai Road (from the intersection toward Beach Road near True Value Hardware).
The cause of the water service interruption is due to a 16-inch distribution waterline leak on the shoulder of the northbound lane in front of Kylie’s Bakery in Gualo Rai. The repair work is anticipated to be completed this morning at 6:30am, Tuesday. Water service to the affected areas will resume soon after.

Free government contracting training

The Guam Procurement Technical Assistance Center is offering free workshops to the public for January 2020. Workshops run from 9am to 10am at the University of Guam in the Jesus and Eugenia Leon Guerrero Business and Public Admin Building, Margarita Perez & Jaime Tuquero IT&E Lecture Hall, Room 131(unless otherwise specified):
Jan. 16: SBIR/STTR Programs—The Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs encourage small businesses to engage in Federal Research and Development that has the potential for commercialization. We will explain the programs and show how innovators can get involved.
Jan. 23:  Government of Guam Procurement—The Guam PTAC will explain government of Guam procurement, where to find opportunities, and how to submit bids.
Jan. 30: DLA Internet Bid Board System—The DLA Internet Bid Board System provides the capability to search for, view, and submit secure quotes for DLA supply RFQs, RFPs, and IFBs. The Guam PTAC will guide you through the process of setting up an account and navigating the system.

NMC Adult Basic Education Program schedules

The Northern Marianas College’s Adult Basic Education or ABE program, which focuses on meeting the educational needs of adult learners, has announced the following dates for Session 3:
— Jan. 13-17, 2020
• CASAS Placement Testing: 1pm (by appointment only), Bldg. M-2
• Registration: 10am – 5pm, Bldg. M
— Jan. 27, 2020: First day of instruction
• Feb. 24-27, 2020: Student evaluation of instructor & class
• March 9, 2020: Last day of instruction (Post-testing for those with 40-plus hours of instruction)
New students and those who have been out of the ABE program for more than a year must make an appointment at the Adult Basic Education Office located in Building M to take the CASAS Assessment Test. Saturday writing workshops

The Marianas Writers Movement will have a series of Saturday workshops. Each workshop will be two hours, beginning at 1:30pm in the VTC Room of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The workshops, “Beyond the First Draft,” will focus on the editing process. These workshops are open to all over age 13, and are free.
Each workshop is different in content. Here is the tentative schedule for topics:
Jan. 18 Workshop 1: Intro to editing
Jan. 25 Workshop 2: How to be a beta reader
Feb. 1 Workshop 3: Writing a critique/editorial report
Feb. 8 Workshop 4: Line editing thoughts
Feb. 15 Workshop 5: Pitching your novel

Kagman schools’ PTSA meeting today

The Kagman Unified Schools will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting today, Jan.14, 2020, at 5:30pm in the Chacha Ocean View Middle School cafeteria. Along with the PTSA president’s report, the agenda will include systems of care service for at-risk youth and young adults experiencing emotional challenges; health information for families, children and youth with special health care needs; and fiscal year 2020-2021 budget proposals of Kagman Elementary, Chacha Ocean View Middle School, and Kagman High School.
