Small craft advisory until Saturday
A small craft advisory is in effect in the CNMI through Saturday afternoon.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, fresh trade winds will increase to strong on Wednesday and continue for the next several days.

Combined seas of 8 to 10 feet will increase to between 9 and 12 feet by Thursday due to increasing northwest swell associated with a shear line. East swell will increase later in the week due to a trade wind surge.

Combined seas of 7 to 9 feet last night will increase to between 8 and 10 feet overnight. Combined seas are expected to peak between 9 and 12 feet Thursday before slowly decreasing below hazardous levels Saturday.

Hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet on west and north facing shores could build to a range of 8 to 11 feet by early Wednesday. The hazardous surf will gradually subside by Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres is advising the general public and inexperience mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, to avoid navigating in these conditions and take extra precautionary measures on entering and leaving harbor and inlets. Avoid also venturing into the water along exposed reefs and beaches especially those facing north and west exposures as rip currents will be life threatening. (PR)
