Spearfishing prohibited on Naval Base Guam

SANTA RITA, Guam–Spearfishing on Naval Base Guam and its surrounding waters is prohibited. Due to the risks and dangers of spearfishing to other aquatic activities it has been prohibited in all areas of NBG. Additionally, there are other laws fisherman should be aware on Guam, as well as endangered species of fish on the coastal waters. Permitted fishing techniques in designated areas only include hook-and-line fishing from shoreline or boat, and cast netting from shorelines. Fishing on NBG is authorized in vicinity of Clipper Cove and the outer portions of Apra Harbor, not to include Gab Gab or San Luis Beaches. (PR)

Friends of the Arts presents I’m not Rappaport

This next weekend, Jan. 16, 17, and 18, the Friends of the Arts will be presenting the second program of its 2015 season, I’m not Rappaport, directed by Harold Easton and produced by Susan Fishman-Tudor.   The performances on Jan. 16 and 17 will start at 7pm.  The Sunday, Jan. 18, program will be a matinee beginning at 3pm. All three shows will be performed at the Marianas High School’s Dolphin Theatre.

Tickets will be sold at the door.  The entrance fee will be $5 for all student Thespian members, $8 for students up through college, $12 for FOA members and $15 for non-FOA members.  Season tickets (for this and the next two show) are still available at $30 for FOA members by contacting me at flgibson@yahoo.com or by calling 287-7476. Air Force training on Farallon de Medinilla

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla today, Jan. 13, from 5am to noon and 2pm to 5:30pm. The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators, are advised to stay clear from the area during the dates and times indicated. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be on a 10-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. (PR)
 
Free workshop on applying for ANA grant

Applying for an Administration for Native Americans grant this year? Come to a free two-day workshop on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 15 and 16, at the NMC campuses. On Saipan, the workshop will be conducted in Room N-5, and on Rota and Tinian, it will be conducted at the VTC conference room. The workshop will start at 8:30am and will end at 4:30pm, with lunch break in between. In this training session, participants will learn how to build a strong grant application, go over ANA’s grant scoring criteria, and review submission requirements. PTSA meeting at Oleai school

The PTSA officers of the Oleai Elementary School would like to inform parents and guardians of OES students that we will be having our PTSA meeting today, Jan. 13, 2014, starting at 6pm in the school cafeteria. We encourage our parents and guardians to attend this important meeting. (PR)

Chamber Installation Dinner on Jan. 24

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will have no general membership meeting this month.  Instead it will celebrate with its Installation Dinner on Jan. 24 at the Hibiscus Hall of the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan. The Chamber will welcome its newest board members and will announce its 2014 Business Person of the Year.  A silent auction will offer fabulous prizes! Tickets are $50/person, and tables of eight persons are available. (SCC)
