Free probate workshop
The Marianas Office of Micronesian Legal Services Corp. will be hosting a series of probate workshops. These are intended as community legal education to help people in the CNMI understand the probate process. The second workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at 3pm at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and will focus on preliminaries before filing probate in court. The workshops are free. Open auditions for new FOA production
The Friends of the Arts is scheduling its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for the early part of May. All persons interested in being a part of this popular Broadway play are invited to an open audition being held this Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2pm on the campus of Marianas High School, Room C203. The play has many parts, including an Adult and Young People’s Chorus.
This is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the ” coat of many colors ” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis. The play was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly.
The FOA production of the musical is under the musical direction of Katie Hoyt, and the stage direction of Harold Easton.

MIFICPA to host tax seminar
The Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs and Accountants, or MIFICPA, invites the public to this year’s tax seminar on March 2, 2019, from 8am to 12pm, at the Hibiscus Hall of the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. This year’s seminar will focus on tax updates for 2018/2019, changes in tax laws and tax filing requirements, among others.
The seminar will be conducted by David J. Burger, CPA , the managing partner of Burger, Comer & Magliari.
The registration fee for members is $25, inclusive of membership fee, snacks and certificate of attendance. Non-members and non-accountants are also welcome for the same fee. Registration starts at 7:30am.

Beginner ukulele class
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library registration for Beginner Ukulele Class is ongoing at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The age range is children ages 8 years or older and adults. The total cost for 8 class sessions is $50. Ukulele classes are held at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in partnership with ukulele instructor Larry Lee and children. Session is set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, from 4pm to 5pm.
The JKPL ukulele class is based on “first come; first paid.” Students must provide their own ukuleles and a folder to hold music sheets (plastic sheet protectors and a three-ring binder are recommended). Parents/guardians must sign a liability waiver form on behalf of their participating children and must adhere to public library policies and procedures.

Class dates are subject to change, unless otherwise specified. Students that have received a ukulele scholarship are able to take advantage of the ukulele class.

Adult/teen/tween JKPL February events
Friday, Feb. 22: Do you like dessert? Sign up for our free Baking Basics, from 3:30pm – 4:30pm! We will learn how to make a delicious treat, and a library card clear of fines is required to participate. Class is geared toward ages 10 and up. Children ages 10-12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday, Feb. 23: The Great Stories Club will be meeting on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 12pm to 1pm! We will be going through the book Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation by Damian Duffy and John Jennings. We are restarting our sign up. If you are interested in reading a great book, receiving free books along with a special prize, sign up at the Reference Desk! Please note the book is now open to grades 6th-12th. (PR)
Military training at Farallon de Medinilla ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct trainings at the island of Farallon de Medinilla until Feb. 22, from 8am to 7pm. It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. (PR)
CHamoru commission meetings
The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will hold a special meeting on Feb. 21, 2019, Thursday, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. The meeting will take place in the former Guam Museum building or the Garden House in Hagåtña. Agenda items are approval of Feb. 14, 2019, minutes and discussion of proposed press conference. Work session will follow.

Xavier High School entrance exam
Xavier High School in the Federated States of Micronesia will be conducting its entrance exam here on Saipan on Feb. 23, Saturday, at Mt. Carmel School.
