Christmas in The Marianas
Christmas in The Marianas will be held every Saturday in December from 5pm to 9pm at Paseo de Marianas. The event schedule includes:
On Dec. 16: Parade of Floats at 5:45pm from Garapan Fishing Base on Beach Road to American Memorial Park, a costume show, and awards presentation.
Dec. 23: Saipan Awaodori, Li’l Hands School of Music, Hopwood Middle School, Saipan Music & Dance Studio, Alana’ia, FESTPAC Warriors (interested musicians and performers may contact MVA Community Projects Specialist Lynn Sablan at 664-3200/01).
Dec. 30: Japanese Mochitsuki Festival, featuring the pounding of rice to make “mochi,” a traditional event in preparation for the new year and Saipan Awaodori Team, Teul Belau Dancers, 29:11:00 and FESTPAC Warriors.

Free health screening on Sunday
There will be a free health screening organized by U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance Marianas chapter (CNMI and Guam), National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea (NYMWPS) Marianas chapter, BAYANi- Bayan Bago Sarili, National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Marianas chapter (CNMI and Guam) and Asian Community of the CNMI (ACC) sponsored by its chairperson, Dr. Celia Lamkin and Ronald Lamkin, on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 8am to 11am, at San Antonio Parish Social Hall, San Antonio, Saipan, CNMI.
Registration starts at 7:30am.
There will be free blood pressure measurements, blood sugar tests, weight and height determination, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
Those who would avail the blood sugar tests are advised to do fasting preferably 12 hours or two hours prior to the actual testing.
Health-related brochures on the prevention of hypertension, stroke, heart attack, asthma, obesity, high cholesterol/triglycerides, diabetes, among others, will be distributed.
Free refreshments will be served.
The groups headed by Dr. Lamkin have been providing free health screening services for the past seven years for health and wellness of the community members of Saipan.
The public is welcome regardless of ethnicity, nationality, citizenship, status, religion, age, and citizenship. (PR)
USS Key West to return to Guam
SANTA RITA, Guam—The Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Key West (SSN 722) is scheduled to return to its homeport of Guam at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, following a four month forward operating period to the Western Pacific.

Water outage today in Kagman
There will be a water service interruption today, Dec. 15, in Kagman, from 9am to 1pm to repair a water leak between JCT Market and the KG2 well. This will take approximately four hours to complete. The outage will affect customers residing along the KG131 well/chlorine station from Kagman Road, Santa Soledad Church, up to the Kumoi booster station and residents near the Juvenile Detention Center to Laulau. Landfill, transfer station closed on Sat.
On Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, both the Lower Base transfer station and the Marpi landfill waste disposal facilities will be closed at 3pm in preparation for the Department of Public Works’ annual Christmas party. (PR)
Military training at Warning Area 517, Farallon de Medinilla
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla today, Dec. 15, from 10:30am to 3:30pm. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. (PR)
