BOG’s Chalan Piao branch reopens
The Bank of Guam has reopened its Chalan Piao branch with the same hours as its Garapan branch: Monday through Thursday: 9am-4pm; Friday: 9am-5pm; Saturday: 9am-1pm. (PR)
Public comment period continues for draft INRMP, environmental assessment
ASAN, Guam—Joint Region Marianas reminds the community of the 30-day public comment period concluding Dec. 13, for the draft 2018 Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan and environmental assessment.
In keeping with its environmental stewardship, the Navy is updating the current 2013 INRMP to ensure that the military in the region continues to meet its vital mission, while managing, protecting and enhancing the health of our natural resources and ecosystem.
The new 2018 INRMP proposes to continue some existing projects from the 2013 document and introduces new projects appropriate for managing natural resources in evolving environmental conditions and challenges.
Those interested in learning about the Navy’s plans to protect and safeguard natural resources in Guam and the CNMI are encouraged to visit the website at www.jrminrmp.com and download a copy of the document, or view a hard copy at the Nieves Flores Memorial Library in Hagatna and the Dededo Library.

Kumisión to host second CHamoru orthography training
HAGÅTÑA, Guam—I Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (The Commission on the CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) announces the Second Training Session on CHamoru language and the adopted Guam CHamoru Orthography. The training will be held at the Westin Resort Guam on Dec. 12, from 8am to 5pm. All participants who were registered and attended the first session on Sept. 28, 2018, are reminded to return for this second session. The third and final session will be scheduled in January 2019. Attendance at this second training in CHamoru orthography, grammar, and translation processes is a requirement for the certificate of completion as a CHamoru Language Liaison.
Participants are urged to bring their laptop computers, their Guam CHamoru Orthography booklets, and their office samples of signage, short phrases or simple directions to be completed at this session. Participants are urged to email the Kumisión at kumisionchamoru@gmail.com for any questions. (PR)
Military training at FDM, Warning Area 12, Warning Area 517
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training in the island of Farallon de Medinilla, Warning Area 12, and Warning Area 517 on Dec. 10, 12, and 13, from 10am to 3pm.
Training will also be conducted at W-517 on Dec. 14-15, from 9am to 2pm.
It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.
The general location of the training in Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island.
W-12 begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters.
W-517 begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. The Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.
These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. (PR)
Guam CHamoru commission meeting set
The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will hold its December monthly meeting on Dec. 13, Thursday, from 12:30pm to 3pm. The meeting will take place at the Garden House (former Guam Museum) in the Plaza de Espana, Hagåtña. MVA meeting on Dec. 14
The Marianas Visitors Authority’s semi- annual general membership meeting will be on Dec. 14, at 10am at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. Guest speakers from the MVA’s offshore offices will provide a recap of fiscal year 2018 projects and the MVA’s marketing plans for fiscal year 2019, including post-typhoon recovery plans.
