Marines, DFEMS hold mini-firefighter fitness challenge
On Dec. 29, the Department of Fire and EMS had a mini-firefighter fitness challenge for the U.S. Marine Cops recruiting office. Gunnery Sgt. Rodney Deleon Guerrero and four other active duty Marines participated in this fitness challenge as well as eight poolees (a person who has completed and passed the physical, moral, and mental exam for the military and is in the delayed entry program). There were 20 others that partook in the mini firefighter fitness challenge. These young individuals are still in school and are interested in becoming a U.S. Marine in the future. (DPS)
3 Saipan beaches red-flagged
The Division of Environmental Quality has red-flagged the DPW Channel Bridge , American Memorial Park, and Puerto Rico dump and is advising the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.
Samples collected from these locations contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. These bacteria can indicate the presence of human and animal waste in the water. (DEQ)
Marpi landfill, transfer station schedule
The Lower Base Transfer Station and the Marpi Landfill waste disposal facilities will be closed today, Dec. 31, 2015, at 12pm. On Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, both facilities will close all day in observance of New Year’s Day. Regular opening schedule will return on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, from 7:30am to 11:30am and 12:30pm to 4pm. Military training at FDM, Warning Area 517
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:
-Jan. 5, from 10am to 6pm
-Jan. 6-7, from 10am to 5pm
-Jan. 8, from 10am to 6pm
The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Jan. 7, from noon to 8pm
The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear of the areas during the dates and times indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be on a 12-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. (PR)
