SSHS students, parents’ orientation today

Saipan Southern High School will have its school year 2018-2019 orientation for students and parents today, Aug. 7. For 9th graders and new students, it will be at 9am; all returning students will be at 1:30pm. (PR)

NMC employees’ training this week

Northern Marianas College employees will be participating in professional development activities tomorrow, Aug. 8, 2018. To maximize employee participation, NMC offices will be closed on that day. 

On Thursday and Friday—Aug. 9 and 10—the following departments will also be closed as employees who are part of the Division of Learning and Student Success will be taking part in additional professional development activities:

• All academic offices
• Office of Admissions and Records
• Counseling Office
• Financial Aid Office 
• Library / Archives
• Office of Institutional Effectiveness
• Office of the LSS VP / Office of the LSS Dean 
• Project PROA Office
• UCEDD

These offices will resume normal business hours and operations on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018.

GTC Elementary School info

The Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School will have an open house/orientation on Aug. 14, 2018, for new and ongoing GTC students and parents, from 5pm to 6pm, at the school cafeteria, then at the child’s classroom. This will allow parents to meet with your child’s teacher and gain information about expectations for the school year.

Also, the school is still accepting registrations for new and ongoing students. If you have yet to register your child, do so as soon as possible to ensure your child is placed on the school roster prior to the first day of school. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Military training at FDM, Warning Area 517

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Aug. 8, and 10, from 11am to 2pm. The U.S. military will also conduct training at Warning Area 517 today, Aug. 7, from 7pm to 9:30pm. It is recommended the general public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00″N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use. (PR)
