‘Accounting for non-accountants’ seminar
August is Accountancy Month! The Marianas Institute of Filipino CPA’s and Accountants, or MIFICPA, reaches out to the community by holding a seminar on “Accounting for Non-Accountants.” This seminar is designed for professionals, small business owners, non-profit organizations and all those wanting to move ahead in their careers. Discussions will focus on topics from the Accounting Cycle to the Financial Statements. Learn accounting the simplified, fast, and easy way. The seminar will be conducted by Eloisa Agustin, MIFICPA officer. It will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, from 1pm to 5pm at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Registration starts at 12pm. Marpi to be blocked off on Aug. 29
The Dhepartment of Public Safety will be blocking off the northern part of the island, from Marpi north, on Aug. 29, 2014, from about 12pm to 3pm. The purpose of this blockage is to dispose of a large collection of unexploded ordnance that has been collected by the Department of Public Safety Explosive Response Team. We are requesting all visitors to these popular areas of the island make arrangements to visit either in the morning before the 12pm deadline or after the operation has completed at 3pm. (DPS)

NMC closed today
Northern Marianas College employees will be participating in professional development activities today, Aug. 7, 2014. All offices at NMC will be closed on that day. MHS student orientation schedule
Marianas High School will be having the orientation for school year 2014-2015 as follow:
• Friday, Aug. 22: Incoming Sophomores and Juniors, 9:30am–11am, School Gym
• Friday, Aug. 22: Incoming Seniors, 1pm–2:30pm, School Gym
• Tuesday, Aug. 26: Incoming Freshmen, 9:30am–11:30am, School Gym. (PR)

Air Force training on Farallon de Medinilla
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Aug. 8, from 11am to 6pm. The general public especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants. (PR)

Family grief support meeting today
A group that is in the process of forming a Compassionate Friends chapter on Saipan will be holding their monthly grief support meeting today, Aug. 7, from 6pm to 7:30pm, in the NMPASI conference room on Middle Road, in Gualo Rai.
