Calling student writers in the CNMI
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is hosting a Student Writers Mystery Adventure on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 from 1pm to 4pm. It’s free and open to all students of any age. The focus is on talking about, planning, and writing mysteries. Also prizes. (PR)
MLSC probate workshop onThursday
The Marianas Office of Micronesian Legal Services Corp. will be presenting the seventh—and the last—in a series of probate workshops on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at 3pm at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The topic is wills (the different kinds, how to make one, etc.). The workshop is free and open to the public. (PR)
Mariana Guide recertification deadline
Official Marianas Guides who applied for certification prior to June 1, 2019, are reminded to submit to the Marianas Visitors Authority evidence of completion of training at Northern Marianas College by Aug. 7, 2019, in order to receive their official badges. Applications that are 90 days past renewal date by Aug. 7, 2019, will be voided and paperwork and fees will need to be resubmitted. Tour operators are also reminded to submit quarterly employee listings to the MVA. Without the required documents, as stated above, Tour Operators or Tourist Land/ Sea Transport Operators are subjected to noncompliance in accordance to Public Law 18-58. SSHS registration
Saipan Southern High School is now accepting registration forms for school year 2019-2020. Please note that All ongoing students must re-register. Temporary office hours at KHS
Kagman High School has temporarily modified its office hours due to a power disruption on the campus that began on July 23. The repair process will bring the campus back to power as soon as Aug. 6. Until then, the office will be open from 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding austerity Friday).
The public is being encouraged to plan for two to three days to process all requests that require printed documents, such as the enrollment verification, official transcript and withdrawals. As soon as the power is restored to campus, Kagman High School will resume normal government hours of operation from 7:30am to 4:30pm. (PR)
Navy to conduct underwater training in Guam harbor
SANTA RITA, Guam¸—The U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 will conduct routine underwater detonation training on Aug. 7, from 8am to 4pm, at the following coordinates in outer Apra Harbor: 13˚27.71”N/144˚38.50”E.
EODMU-5 will detonate a total of five pounds of explosives at the designated UNDET location on a sandy area of the sea floor.
For the safety of the public and participants involved, the U.S. Coast Guard will establish safety zones to restrict access in the vicinity of the training area.
EODMU-5 performs routine underwater detonation training to develop the skills needed to be ready to rapidly respond to operational missions and unexploded ordnance support on Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. (PR)
