WCC chief to speak at SHRM meeting
Francisco Diaz Cabrera, director of the CNMI Office of the Workers’ Compensation Commission, will be the main speaker at the Aug. 31, 2017, meeting of the Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter. This lunch meeting will be held at the Pacific Islands Club Charley’s Cabaret on Thursday, from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The presentation is open to the public. Cabrera will provide an opportunity for questions. The presentation includes the PIC lunch buffet at the cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members. Military training at Farallon de Medinilla
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Aug. 30, from 6 am to 3pm. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. (PR)
PH consular outreach in September
The Philippine Consulate General in Guam will be holding a mobile outreach on Saipan on Sept. 8 to Sept. 11 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. It will accommodate 640 applicants who pre-registered for passport renewal.
If an individual wants to avail of one of the 640 slots available for the outreach program, they must call the office of Philippine honorary consul to the Commonwealth Glicerio Arago at 233-6293. The individual has to set up the renewal appointment with Mel Santos. (Saipan Tribune)
Class of 1987 gears up for 30th-year reunion
The Marianas High School Class of 1987 will be having its 30th-year class reunion on Sept. 23. The reunion is open to any CNMI Class of 1987 graduate, regardless of which high school they graduated from. A Mass in honor of departed classmates will be held at the San Antonio Church on Sept. 23, 2017, at 4pm. The reunion will follow immediately after the Mass, from 5:30pm to 10pm, at the Surf Club (beach side) in Chalan Kanoa, the former Pacific Gardenia Sunset Bar and Grill. Sobriety checkpoints this week
The Highway Patrol Section of the Department of Public Safety will be setting up sobriety checkpoints on Saipan this week.
On Sept. 2, the first setup from 6:30pm to 8:20pm will cover the area from Chalan Pale Arnold in Garapan to Chalan Laulau. A second setup from 9:30pm to 11:30pm will cover the area from Chalan Monsignor Guerrero in San Jose to Dandan.
Rota DPS will also be conducting DUI/sobriety checkpoints this week.
Today, Aug. 31, the first setup from 7pm to 8:15pm will be along the San Francisco Highway Lotgan area. The second setup from 11pm to 12:15am will be along the San Francisco highway Tatgua area.
On Sept. 1, the first setup from 7pm to 8:15pm will be along San Francisco Highway by Sinapalo 3. The second setup from 11pm to 12:15am will be along San Francisco Highway by the Pinatang Park.
Traffic and patrol officers will also be conducting highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser (speed detection) enforcement.
Each checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes (one hour and 15 minutes). (Saipan Tribune)
