Chamber meeting today
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will have its general membership meeting today, Aug. 1, at Charley’s of the Pacific Islands Club at noon. The guest speakers will be Labor Secretary Vicky Benavente, who will share updates from her agency regarding the workforce, employment numbers, and new projects; and Kanae Quinn and Wendi Herring, directors on the Make A Wish Foundation board, to speak about the good deeds of this organization in granting wishes for children in need. NMC info session on Thursday
Individuals interested in furthering their education or expanding their income potential are encouraged to attend the Northern Marianas College information sessions on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at NMC’s Cafe Proa, located at the college’s As Terlaje campus. Cafe Proa is located near the NMC Bookstore. Roundtrip shuttle service will be provided from Tanapag and Kagman on each day that the info session is held. Pick up times from Tanapag Middle School and the Kagman Market will be at 4:30pm, and the return dropoff time from NMC back to Tanapag and Kagman will be at 7pm.
The session will cover topics that include degree programs, financial aid options, the Prior Learning Assessment program, admissions, and other topics.

Military training at Warning Area 517, FDM
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Aug. 1-2, from 3pm to 11pm.
The military will also conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Aug. 3-5, from 10am to 10pm.
It is recommended the general public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.
W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00”N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. (PR)
