Join the Edible Book Contest at Saipan public library

Join the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s Edible Book Contest on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 9am to 2pm to participate. Contest is free and open to all cardholders with cleared library cards (ages 6 and up). Last day to register is April 26 at 6pm.

Interested participants should come up with an edible creation that is related to reading and/or books. Examples include, but are not limited to, book titles, authors, and characters.

Be sure to bring the book you are recreating to display, or ask a JKPL librarian to help you find it in the library. Participants should bring their creations to the library on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 9am to 10am. From 10am to 12pm, the community is invited to vote for their favorite entry! After the winners are announced, the community will be invited to taste-test the creations. All entries must be cleared away by 3pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Any entries left after that time will be discarded.

Community planting and cleanup at WSR school

In celebration of Environment Month and Earth Day, volunteers are invited to help plant trees and flowers at the Willim S. Reyes Elementary School in Chalan Kanoa tomorrow, April 27, from 8am to 10:30am. There will also be a cleanup of litter on and around the school campus.

The event is hosted by Precinct 2 Reps. Christina Sablan and John Paul Sablan, in collaboration with WSR Elementary School, Division of Forestry, Northern Mariana Islands Cooperative Research and Educational Extension Services, and Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance.

JKPL parking lot closed today, tomorrow

In order to accommodate and prepare for the 2nd Annual Community Mobile Information Literacy Fair, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s parking lot will be closed today, April 26, and tomorrow, April 27.

SCC membership meeting on May 1

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s general membership meeting in May will be held on Wednesday, May 1, at Charley’s Cabaret of Pacific Islands Club Saipan.

The speakers are acting Finance secretary David Atalig, who will speak about his vision and plans for the CNMI Department of Finance, and Northern Marianas Humanities Council program officer Farah Younis to speak about the council’s upcoming initiatives.

The luncheon begins at 11:30pm with the meeting portion starting promptly at noon. Tickets are $25 for Chamber members/$35 for non-members. Marie Castro talks about her book at JKPL

As part of National Library Month activities, join the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library today, April 26, 2019, from 5pm to 6pm in the Children’s Library to hear a book talk by CNMI author Marie Castro.

Castro will be discussing the books Without a Penny in My Pocket: Bittersweet Memories Before and After WWI by Marie S.C. Castro and Marie Castro: My Life and Amelia Earhart’s Saipan Legacy by Mike Campbell and Marie S.C. Castro. (PR)
