Commerce opens CEDS evaluation to the public

The CNMI Department of Commerce is in the final stages of the 2015 to 2019 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, or CEDS, project. To date, the agency has held two series of public hearings to gain input on the project overview and strategy, as well as to solicit input on public agency project listings.

The project, which is funded under a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, is overseen by the CNMI Department of Commerce in consultation with an appointed CNMI CEDS Commission that has concluded the evaluation of each of the identified projects, including those submitted by non-government agencies.

“In line with Gov. [Ralph DLG] Torres’ directive to ensure public inclusion, we are encouraging the public to submit their own evaluation of the identified projects. To provide ease of use, the agency has uploaded the project matrix and project descriptions on our dedicated website at www.cnmiceds.com,” Commerce Secretary Mark Rabauliman said.

Following the submission of all project evaluations, each project will be ranked based on CEDS commission member evaluations, as well as public submissions. The evaluations will be included in the final report that will be made public and adopted by the CNMI Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

To ensure that Commerce completes the project in a timely manner, evaluations will be open to the public until Jan. 10, 2017.

After Jan. 10, the evaluation function will be disabled on the site and the finalizing of the report for public inspection will take place. (Office of the Governor)
