Comments sought on installation of water filtration system
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration is considering a request for federal assistance from the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. to construct the Granular Activated Carbon Filtration Systems in I Fadang (Isley Field) and Obyan.
Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act, EDA is assessing the potential impact of the proposed project on the environment and/or historic properties.
The project will install filter systems to treat and remove the perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonate contaminants found in the groundwater in the Isley Field and Obyan areas. The project will be located at the Isley Field near the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport and the Obyan well field south of the Saipan airport runway. Project information is available for review on CUC’s website at www.cucgov.org.
