CNMI’s COVID total now 269
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. announced yesterday that one incoming traveler tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the CNMI’s total to 269. In Guam, the island’s Joint Information Center announced the island’s 196th COVID-19-related death and reported that there are currently 66 individuals in Guam who are hospitalized with COVID-19. Of the 66, 35 are unvaccinated, the JIC reported.
CHCC said yesterday that the CNMI’s latest case was identified by travel screening and confirmed positive through arrival testing on Sept. 29. The traveler has since been quarantined and is being actively monitored, and CHCC’s contact tracing team has already begun reaching out to those who were in closest contact with the traveler. CHCC also said yesterday that there are currently no active COVID-19-related hospitalizations.
Guam’s 196th COVID-19-related death was an unvaccinated 59-year-old male with underlying health conditions. He was a known positive case and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Memorial Hospital on Sept. 28.
Guam Gov. Leon Guerrero said that every life lost to COVID-19 is “one too many,” and that Guam must use all the tools available to the island to combat the virus.
“Each person that we lose to COVID-19 is one too many, and our hearts go out to their families and friends during their time of grieving. In this fight, we must use all the tools at our disposal, including masks, social distancing, vaccination, and even COVID-19 treatment,” said Leon Guerrero.
