CNMI restoration efforts complete
Last 1 percent of power back on Rota
The last 1 percent of Rota’s power services went back up on Thursday, after Commonwealth Utilities Corp. crews completed power restorations efforts in the wake of Typhoon Dolphin last week.
CUC public information officer Brad Ruszala told Saipan Tribune Friday morning that CUC restored the remaining power on Rota on Thursday night.
Rota was hardest hit by the typhoon. CUC sent a four-man line crew to Rota to assist restoration efforts. Typhoon Dolphin left the island with downed lines, snapped poles, and without power.
CUC Rota deputy director Charles Manglona said Thursday that CUC line crews continue to repair minor damage to the transmission system, including tensioning loose power transmission lines and straightening leaning power poles.
Manglona said the interisland line crews worked to repair some of the damaged power pole hardware and accessories until the Saipan line crews returned home Friday.
“Without their help, power restoration would have taken longer to accomplish. It is good that we completed the major repair in less than a week. CUC line crews work tirelessly day and night, carrying out tasks to complete the restoration project in a timely manner,” he said.
Water service to customers on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota was restored soon after the typhoon.
CUC Power Division manager Gary Camacho earlier said there was very little damage to the island’s main feeders or high voltage system.
The CUC Call Center on Saipan received 3,992 calls from customers before, during, and after the typhoon.
