CNMI positive total now at 113
Four more travelers who recently arrived on Saipan tested positive for COVID-19 last Monday and yesterday, raising the CNMI’s cumulative total to 113.
According to a Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. statement, two passengers tested positive last Dec. 7 during travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival. A day later, on Dec. 8, two passengers were identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth-day testing. CHCC said these individuals have been safely in quarantine and were moved to the isolation area at Kanoa Resort for monitoring.
Contact tracing has been initiated for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed cases, including passengers on the same flight. There are now six people who are in isolation at the Kanoa Resort in Susupe.
According to CHCC, the recent four cases were from the U.S. mainland. The CNMI is now going on 111 days with no community transmission.
COVID-19 in Guam
According to the Department of Public Health and Social Services, Guam plans to immunize 5,850 people on the island during the first phase of COVID-19 vaccinations. DPHSS said the first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine could arrive in Guam by mid-December.
Guam expects to receive an initial shipment of 3,900 doses, which will be used to give the first vaccine shot to 3,900 people. The second shipment of 3,900 doses will be used to give those people their second dose, 21 days later, according to DPHSS
The third shipment of 3,900 doses will be divided in half in order to give 1,950 more people both their first and second shots, according to DPHSS, resulting in 5,850 total people being fully vaccinated.
According to the Joint Information Center in Guam, from Dec. 4 to Dec. 6, a total of 60 people tested positive for COVID-19 and were officially reported. Forty-five out of 60 cases were reported last Dec. 5, and 15 cases were identified through contact tracing on Dec. 6. Two cases reported recent travel and were identified in quarantine.
As of Dec. 8, there have been a total of 7,019 reported cases of COVID-19 in Guam, with 113 deaths, 658 cases in active isolation, and 6,248 not in active isolation.
