CNMI logs 2 more COVID-19 cases
Two more arriving passengers have tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the CNMI’s cumulative total of confirmed cases to 75.
According to a Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. statement, the two individuals were identified through travel screening and were confirmed positive through testing upon arrival. The two are now at the designated isolation area, the Kanoa Resort in Susupe, for monitoring.
CHCC has also initiated contact tracing for people who have come in contact with the two positive cases, including passengers on the same flight.
In total, six people are currently in isolation.
Of the 75 confirmed cases, 49 are travel related (29 are from the U.S. mainland, 10 are from a U.S. territory, and 10 are from a foreign country).
Of the 73 confirmed cases so far, 26 are from community screening; 10 are from the community-based testing at CHCC, and 16 are from contact tracing.
COVID-19 in Guam
Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero has signed an executive order that now allows sports organizations and eligible child care centers and other child care facilities to open with restrictions.
Sports organizations are now allowed to resume, effective yesterday, Oct. 5 at 8am. “Sports organization [sic] may request authorization to conduct non-contact training at their designated training facilities. Such requests shall be submitted to [Guam’s Department of Public Health and Social Services], which may authorize such activities on a case by case basis pursuant to DPHSS guidance, including any applicable occupancy limitation,” said the order.
Also, effective yesterday, Oct. 5 at 6am, eligible child care centers and other child care facilities were able to open as long as they follow DPHSS guidance. “Each child care center and other child care facility must submit facility mitigation plans to DPHSS. …Facilities operating under this section shall additionally observe all mitigation measures imposed in applicable DPHSS guidance,” said the EO.
To date, Guam has had a total of 2,550 reported cases of COVID-19, with 49 deaths, 635 cases in active isolation, and 1,866 not in active isolation. Of those cases, 2,277 are classified as civilians and 273 are military service members.
