The CNMI Department of Lands and Natural Resources, Division of Agriculture-CNMI Forestry was recently awarded its 2012 grant totaling $200,000. The funds will be used under the Urban and Community Forestry program, which focuses on beautification of parks, beaches, and public places by planting trees.

Funds also cover the Forest Stewardship Program, which focuses on non-industrial, private landowners and increasing the diversity of forest trees.

The grant also covers the Cooperative Forest Health and Invasive Species, which focuses on tree health and recovery, reduction of invasive tree species, and reduction of forest pests.

The 2012 award is approved for one year. The programs mission is: “Conserve Working Forest Lands, Protect Forests from Harm, Enhance Public Benefits from Trees and Forests and to establish and improve the programs’ WEB-DET Capacity.” The grant award took effect on July 1, 2012, through July 1, 2013.
