CNMI Census responses to be sent to DC
The CNMI Census Office has completed data collection and field follow up activities as of the end of August 2020, according to the Department of Commerce yesterday.
In response to Saipan Tribune’s inquiries, Commerce Central Statistics Division director Justin Andrew said Census responses are now being packed and will be sent to the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Washington, D.C. before the end of September. Andrew said the CNMI Census Office will be officially closed by the end of November.
He said Census data processing, tabulation, and report publication will be done by the U.S. Census Bureau at its headquarters.
He said the 2020 Census of the CNMI contract only allows the CNMI government to collect the data. “All the data collected is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters for processing and reporting,” Andrew said.
Rabauliman
Commerce Secretary Mark O. Rabauliman said the successful completion of the 2020 Census, especially during this time of the global COVID-19 pandemic, would not have been possible without the cooperation and participation of the CNMI community.
Norita
“On behalf of our governor and his leadership team and our Census 2020 team led by our Census manager, Mr. Clyde Norita, I thank each and every member of our local communities on Saipan, Rota, Tinian, and the Northern Islands for trusting us with your personal information,” Rabauliman said.
He assured people of the confidentiality of their personal data, saying they were collected under strict confidentiality procedures implemented by the CNMI Census Office.
He said the data that the people provided gave them the much needed information for policymaking and program planning decisions that government leaders need until another Census is conducted.
