The CNMI celebrated New Year’s Eve and Day revelry peacefully as no major vehicular accident was reported and no firecracker-injury was reported, police said on Saturday.

Department of Public Safety police spokesman Travis Hurst said no one was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol at a sobriety checkpoint they put up.

“We have increased patrols during holiday season. More officers were out on the road,” Hurst said.

He said at this time, he did not hear any major vehicular incident or firecracker-related injuries that occurred during New Year’s Eve and Day.

“It’s pretty calm,” Hurst said.

DPS is expected to release this week more information regarding the results of their month-long operations during holiday season against drunk and drugged drivers.
