CK person arrested for alleged criminal mischief, disturbance

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, at about 4:15am, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a disturbing the peace in progress in the village of Chalan Kanoa on Saipan. Moments later, a unit doing routine patrol through Chalan Kanoa was flagged down by an elderly male, who told police that he had just called for police assistance for his neighbor.
Police made their way to the witnesses’ apartment unit and verified that the witnesses were okay and unharmed. The witness stated that he and his girlfriend were asleep when they were awakened by a creaking noise. As they were about to look out their room’s window, they noticed that it appeared to be opening slowly. When the witness looked out the window, he noticed a heavily built dark-complexioned male, wearing a pair of orange shorts and a gray T-shirt, running away from the window.
A few moments later, the witness decided to take out the trash. As the witness was walking toward the outside trash bin, he noticed the same individual he saw earlier walking back to his (witness) apartment. As soon as the suspect was close enough to see the witness’ face, he ran to a neighboring unit. The witness then called for police assistance.
Other responding units managed to find the suspect within a neighboring apartment unit. At about 4:28am, the witness positively identified the suspect as Stanis Defang, who was arrested and brought to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained. (PR)
