Funded by the U.S. Department of Interior Office of Insular Affairs and through the Tinian Legislative Delegation’s Resolution 19-4, the island of Tinian through the Capital Improvement Projects of the Office of the Governor broke ground on a 0.5-million gallon reservoir project in the amount of $1.5 million to be completed by Jan. 28, 2017.

According to the CIP office, the purpose of this project is to install additional water storage capacity to ensure adequate and reliable water supply to the municipality of Tinian and to provide the capability for maintenance of the existing 0.5-million gallon reservoir without interrupting water services to the residents of Tinian.

The construction of the 0.5-million gallon glass-fused-to-steel reservoir will be constructed adjacent to the existent reservoir.

The construction involves the installation of glass-fused steel with an aluminum dome roof and galvanized handrails and railings with associated site improvements. Key components to this project include cathodic protection, the installation of controls and telemetry system, water supply pipes, chain link fencing, vehicle access gates, pressure testing, chlorination, and the restoration of asphalt pavement.
