Christmas poems

Christmas Day, Christmas time, Christmas holidays, the 12 Days of Christmas, there are probably more poems, songs, books and movies written about those events than any other holiday in the world. One famous song/poem that also has many parodies and humorous versions is The 12 Days of Christmas. I thought that idea has been done so many times that I would write, with respect for our separation of church and state, of 12 days celebrating democracy.

12 DAYS OF CELEBRATING DEMOCRACY

On the 1st day of democracy celebration the nation joins together in jubilation for all the freedom that US citizenship brings to us

on the 2nd day celebrate how great our separation of church and state

on the 3rd day celebrate our three branches of government: judicial, executive, and legislative

on the 4th day we have President FDR’s Four Freedoms: the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom to worship God in his own way, freedom from want, and freedom from fear

on the 5th day we celebrate the fifth amendment – indictment by a Grand Jury, double jeopardy, and due process.

on the 6th day we celebrate D-Day, June 6th 1944 when over 160,000 allied soldiers landed in France to fight for democracy

on the 7th day celebrate the end of the seven day work week and the beginning of the five day work week in the US between 1908 and 1919

on the 8th day celebrate the eight hour day and “a living wage”

on the 9th day we celebrate nine Supreme Court Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court

on the 10th day we celebrate the first 10 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, written by James Madison, also known as the Bill of Rights

on the 11th day we celebrate Veteran’s Day a holiday to honor all who have served in the U.S. Military Services.
