“Christmas in the Marianas” returns to Saipan on consecutive Saturdays in December, offering weekly holiday entertainment for visitors and residents, alike.

This year’s signature event will be led by Team PDI, KKMP, the CNMI Public School System, Paseo de Marianas Promoters, and other new stakeholders in support of the Marianas Visitors Authority, which suffered a budget cut this year.

“We are very grateful to all our partners for taking the lead in organizing this year’s Christmas in the Marianas and for coming together to see the continuation of this MVA signature event,” said MVA community projects manager Martin Duenas. “We have partnered with Team PDI on this event for several years now, and we are confident that this year’s celebration is going to be just as lively as in years past.”

“We wish all the children the best and welcome the community to come and join with us as we continue to bring holiday cheer to our kids in celebrating Christmas in the Marianas,” said PDI vice president Gordon Marciano.

The celebration will kick off on Dec. 5 with the annual schoolwide Christmas Tree

Decoration Competition at Paseo de Marianas in downtown Garapan. The trees, decorated with recyclable material, will remain on display at the pedestrian mall in Saipan’s main tourist district throughout the month.

Elementary and middle school students will sing their hearts out at the annual Christmas Caroling Competition on stage at Paseo de Marianas, while upper grades will have a dance, skit, and singing competition on Dec. 5, 12, and 19. Also on Dec. 19, the Christmas Parade and Float and Costume Competition will be held. The floats competition will start at 6pm from the Carolinian Affairs Office to Paseo de Marianas. On Dec. 24, the annual Mochitsuki Festival will be held with the traditional pounding of rice. (MVA)
