The annual “Christmas in the Marianas” kicks off this Saturday at the Paseo de Marianas, spreading the holiday joy with weekly entertainment for the community and tourists.

The event will be held every Saturday—Dec. 6, 13, 20, and 27.

Various organizations, including the Marianas Visitors Authority, KKMP, Pacific Development Inc., Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc., Marianas Walking Association and other key partners are inviting the community to visit the tourist district every Saturday.

PDM coordinator Sonia Siwa said they will be hosting different events to show the holiday spirit and joy of the CNMI.

This Saturday, the event will kick off at 5:30pm and will feature a Christmas tree decoration contest, a Christmas light-up countdown, holiday entertainment, and the Saipan Awaodori Team.

On Dec. 13, there will be a Christmas caroling contest and announcement of the Christmas tree and decoration contest winners. Dec. 20 will be the MWA 5-kilometer Christmas Health Walk, Christmas Costume Show, a Christmas parade from the Carolinian Village to Paseo with a float contest, and stage entertainment from 6pm to 9pm.

On the last day—Dec. 27—there will be a Mochitsuki Exhibition, announcement of caroling, costume and float contest winners, and live entertainment from various dance groups.

Food and drink vendors will be involved on all four Saturdays.

In related news, Siwa said that Sinapalo Elementary School on Rota and the Tinian Elementary School will be joining the various schools on Saipan in an art contest.

“We want these kids to be part of the Christmas event. This year we received 96 drawing entries from Rota and 97 entries from Tinian,” Siwa said.
