Christmas in the Marianas to begin Nov. 30
The Marianas Visitors Authority, PDM Promoters, Inc., Team PDI, and other travel partners will host five Saturdays of Christmas in the Marianas beginning Nov. 30, 2019.
The five-week celebration will feature holiday entertainment for visitors and residents each Saturday evening at Paseo de Marianas in downtown Garapan.
The official Christmas Tree and Christmas trees decorated by local schools will be lit on Nov. 30 at the pedestrian mall at 6pm, followed by Christmas caroling from 7pm to 10pm on Dec. 7, Christmas caroling will be held from 6pm to 10pm on Dec. 14, a Christmas parade will be held at 6pm from Garapan Fishing Base north on Beach Road to Paseo de Marianas, where a costume show will follow on-stage. The evening’s entertainment will also include award ceremonies for the various contests held for schools. Dec. 21 will feature a special night with Skymark Airlines, a Japanese carrier expected to launch regular direct flights from Tokyo to Saipan this year. Additional holiday entertainment will highlight the final evening on Dec. 28 from 6pm to 10pm
“Everyone is invited to join the Christmas in the Marianas, which will kick off with the lighting of the Christmas trees at Paseo de Marianas on Thanksgiving weekend,” said MVA managing director Priscilla M. Iakopo. “The students and teachers are very excited about this year’s celebration and, through the support of PDI, PDM Promoters, and our other partners, we are looking forward to one of the best Christmas in the Marians events we’ve ever had.”

The school trees, decorated with recyclable material, will remain on display at the pedestrian mall in Saipan’s main tourist district until after New Year’s. Seventeen trees are available on a first-come, first-serve basis through application with the MVA.
Dec. 21 and 28 will feature individual acts; interested musicians and performers may contact the MVA to apply.
Participating schools are Oleai, Koblerville, Gregorio T. Camacho, San Vicente, Garapan, William S Reyes, and Kagman elementary schools; Hopwood, Chacha Ocean View, Dandan, and Tanapag middle schools; Kagman and Saipan Southern high schools; Agape Christian School, Saipan Community School, Green Meadow School, Saipan International School, Northern Marianas International School, Grace Christian Academy, Brilliant Star, and Mount Carmel School.
