Christmas in the Marianas on Dec. 17
The Marianas Visitors Authority and the Marianas Walking Association invite the community and visitors to share holiday cheer in celebrating the 10th Annual Christmas in the Marianas this Saturday, Dec. 17.
This year’s holiday celebration will feature a health walk along Saipan Beach Pathway, a parade of floats in downtown Garapan, and an evening of caroling and pageantry at the American Memorial Park amphitheater.
“Christmas in the Marianas was started 10 years ago to give visitors an opportunity to share in the holiday celebration with our community,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “More than ever, this year’s event will be an opportunity to celebrate the season and lift each others spirits, without spending an extra dime. We encourage everyone to mark their calendars for this Saturday.”
The celebration will kick off with the Christmas in the Marianas Health Walk at 5pm from American Memorial Park. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 50 participants. The short course will turn around at Triple J Motors in Chalan Laulau and the long course will turnaround at the MVA office in Oleai.
Following the walk, the parade of floats will assemble at the Garapan Fishing Base at 5pm. The parade begins after 5:30pm at the Carolinian Affairs Office and proceed through downtown Garapan along Beach Road to the American Memorial Park. Beach Road will be closed along the parade route until approximately 7:30pm.
“We’d like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Department of Public Safety, the Public School System, and other agencies and organizations whose help and participation has made it possible for our community and visitors to enjoy Christmas in the Marianas this year,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio.
The Attire/Caroling Competition will be held at the park after the parade until 9pm. (MVA)
