Cholos 8th Division and Ask Y U B won the pair of Open division matches in the 2015 San Antonio Community Action Network Basketball League last Wednesday night at the San Antonio court.
In the first game, Ask Y U B defeated KB Market, 79-76, to reclaim the solo top spot in the East Group, while Cholos moved up to second in the West Group following a 74-62 triumph over GMI Market in the nightcap.
Ask Y U B now has a 4-1 record, one victory ahead of the second-running MJD Enterprise (3-1) ad Sonics (3-1). KB Market is still winless in three games, while Islander (1-0), 5-Star Construction (0-2) and Maplas (0-3) round up the East Group. Over on the West Group, Cholos is behind the unbeaten GMJ/IKKI Whosale (4-0) and is joined in the standing by PIC (1-1), Blue Haus (1-1), Armatech (0-1) GMI Market (1-2), and Ferrera Builders (0-2).

Cholos had a strong finish against GMI Market to bag its second win in four games.
The Cholos-GMI Market tiff was back to square one after the third period, 51-all, before the former managed to gain cushion against the latter in the fourth behind the successive baskets of Jun Tabora. The Cholos shooting guard scored 8 straight points early in the final canto and finished with 10 in that period to make up for his so-so performance in the first three quarters. He had only two field goals in the opening frame and earned one in the second before going scoreless in the third.
With Tabora failing to find his target early on, Cholos leaned on Sonny Lerio’s shooting to keep up with GMI Market. Lerio ended the first half with back-to-back triples and wrapped up the opening 20 minutes of play with 13 points, as Cholos fell behind by only 5 at halftime, 35-40. Lerio went on to top-score for Cholos with his 19 markers, while Jerome Norita chipped in 13.
In the other Open division match, Ask Y U B built enough cushion in the first three periods to foil KB Market’s comeback bid in the fourth quarter.
Jethro Cruz paced Ask Y U B with his 15 points, while Djay Ong contributed 14, including the team’s last 3 points that halted KB Market’s rally. Three other Ask Y U B players broke into double figures with Josh Sablan tallying 12 and Keoni Chariton and Marvin Rabauliman registering 11 and 10, respectively.
