A child was injured during a fire that broke out at an apartment in Susupe yesterday afternoon.
Emergency medical technicians treated the child of minor injury to his finger at the scene, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde.
Gersonde said arson investigators determined that the fire originated from the sofa and the cause was an incendiary material.
DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety’s 911 about a fire at an apartment near Mount Carmel School at 3:56pm.
Firefighters and medics from Susupe and Koberville Fire Stations responded to the scene located along Chinchulu Avenue. The fire was placed under control at 4:20pm.
Gersonde said investigators found that a bedroom on the second floor had severe heat damage and moderate smoke damage.
Last Jan. 20, a car caught fire in front of Mount Carmel School in Chalan Kanoa, while another fire broke out at a shipping container at the old dumpsite in Puerto Rico.
