The beach area from Oleai Beach to Sugar Dock in Chalan Kanoa got a facelift on April 4, 2015,thanks to a group calling itself the Chief Aghurubw Foundation and Beautify My Marianas program.

The group collected 120 lbs of trash along the route, as noted in its post-action report.

“Picnic trash [foam plates, plastic forks/spoons, cans], BBQ grills, rusted fan grill, rope, cigarette butts, plastic bags, soiled diapers, snack and candy wraps, foam plates from meat packs, fishing line, butane cans, fruit mesh, plastic water bottles and caps, plastic straws and wrappers, beer and soda cans, liquor bottles, assorted can foods, plastic bag with vomit, small bucket of feces, HI-C boxes and miscellaneous plastic and metal materials,” the group listed as item they picked up.

Beautify My Marianas is a program of the Marianas Visitors Authority offering$100 for each 1-mile cleanup in assigned areas.

Participants included eight adults, three teenagers, and seven children: Shawnalei Ogumoro, Guinaiya Taisacan, Aram Taisacan, Zane Taisacan, Stefani Tagabuel, Les Ogumoro-Uludong, Peter Aldan, Deaus Salas, Schuubwe Fitial, Danandro Barcinas, Dora Lizama, Donray Barcinas, Dylan Barcinas, Asap Ogumoro, Reneacia San Nicolas, Aling Ogumoro-Uludong, Eireng Ogumoro, and Louis Ogumoro.
