CHCC: Low vaccine coverage in adults
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. is urging adults to come in and get vaccinated due to low vaccine coverage rates in adults.
According to CHCC spokesperson Zoe Travis, CHCC has seen a low vaccination coverage rate among adults.
“We have a good vaccination coverage rate among the youth. Our issue is with adults, especially immigrants who come from countries where they did not need to be vaccinated,” she said.
Travis said only about 50% of the adults in the CNMI are updated in their vaccinations compared to the 90% of the youth.
Travis said the CHCC immunization program has successfully increased the coverage in the youth by partnering with schools, in contrast with the adults.
“We are pretty well covered, especially with measles, which can have deadly consequences for young people,” she said.
The immunization program is working on conducting outreach in the community to cater to adults.
The pharmacy offers walk-in adult vaccinations—they have all the vaccinations you need, according to Travis. Vaccines are also available at the CHCC outpatient pharmacy. However, the pharmacy doesn’t administer immunizations for children.
The pharmacy administers immunization shots for adults from 8:30am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8:30am to 5pm on weekends.
