TanHoldings Football Club’s Kaithlyn Chavez and Shirley’s Football Club’s Katrina Costales scored the most goals in the 2019 NMIFA Fall Youth League to bag the Golden Boot awards in their respective age groups.
Chavez collected 28 goals in nine games in the co-ed U12 division to take the individual top honors this season. She made it on the board in all of TanHoldings’ matches, saving the best for last, as she delivered four in their 10-4 triumph over Kanoa Football Club last Nov. 16.
The TanHoldings striker led by six goals against the division’s No. 2 scorer and her teammate, Mark Costales, who tallied 16. With Chavez and Costales on target in the three-round robin contest, TanHoldings finished the season unbeaten in nine games.
Meanwhile, Kanoa’s Paul Lizama and Rigel Devey and MP United’s Miles Linden were the other player in the division to make at least 10 goals this season after recording 15, 10, and 12, respectively.
Completing the Top 10 in the Golden Boot race were TanHoldings’ Monico Claridades (8), MP United’s William Lee (7), Shirley’s FC’s Jayvin Bisek (6) and Arif Khan (5), and MP United’s Xavier Lee (5).
In the girls U16 division, Costales surpassed long-time leader and the favored Paulyn Joyce of Kanoa FC, as the former earned 28 against the latter’s 22.
Costales was clinging to a 1-point lead over Joyce, 21-20, before the final game in the double-round robin competition last Nov. 16. Costales then ended up firing seven goals in their 9-2 win over Matansa in a match ahead of Kanoa’s last game to gain more cushion. The Shirley’s top player kept the lead for good, as Joyce later scored only two goals in their 3-2 title win over TanHoldings FC.
Matansa’s Janah Casarino (13), Southern United’s Erin Frink (12), and MP United’s Audrey Castro (11) and Maury Zon Tybaco (11) rounded out the Top 5 in the Golden Boot contest. Southern United’s Keisha Deleon Guerrero was the seventh player to get at least 10 goals this season.
