Chavez, 3 others named MVPs

Mount Carmel School’s Andrei Kaithlyn Chavez, Grace Christian School’s Jasper Hall, Saipan International School’s Tiana Cabrera, and Agape Christian School’s Eason Tang were crowned this season’s most valuable players for the 2021 PSS/McDonalds All Schools Athletics Championships that concluded last weekend at the Oleai Track and Field.
The Lady Knight gained the season’s MVP award for the girls 14U division with the highest accumulated score for topping all her championship events. Chavez managed a total score of 70 points for dominating the 3,000m, 1,500m, 800m, 400m, and 200m events.
In the 3,000m course, Chavez finished with a time of 13:15, followed by a time of 5:50:43 in the 1,500m race. The Lady Knight moved on to conquer the 800m with a time of 2:52:14, the 400m event at 1:06:64, and finally the 200m race with a time of 29:46.
Cabrera
For the girls 18U division, Cabrera gained the MVP award with a total score of 48 points after gaining gold medals in the 3,000m and 1,500m events. Cabrera topped the 3,000m run, coming out first with a time of 13:07, and grabbed her second gold medal in the 1,500m after crossing the finish line first with a time of 5:46:3.
Meanwhile in the boys 18U division, Tang was hailed the MVP with a total of 54 points for gaining gold medals in the 400m, 200m, and 100m events.
The Torch Bearer bested the competition in the 400m event with a time of 56:23, then again in the 200m event, making it to the finish line at 25:10. He added a third gold medal to his collection when he finished first in the 100m with a time of 12:12.
Hall took home the MVP award in the boys 14U division with a grand total of 44 points for winning a gold medal in the 200m event with a time of 26:14. On top of that, he earned a silver medal in the 400m event with a time of 1:04:27.

Also earning MVP awards in the elementary level of the Athletics Championships were Beatrice Gross and Jude Rayphand from SIS, Ysabella Lenteja from Tinian Elementary School, and Moshe Sikkel and Aiden Camacho from Brilliant Star School
The Geckos prevailed in the girls and boys 9U division with Gross and Rayphand earning the MVP awards for a total score of 54 each.
Lenteja brought home the honor of MVP for the girls 12U division after accumulating a total of 54 points.

Tied for MVP in the boys 12U division were Sikkel and Camacho who each earned 70 points.
According to PSS Athletics program director Nick Gross, medals have officially arrived on-island and plans for distribution are underway.
“As soon as I get them all sorted based on the final results I’ll send a message with the plan for dispersing to each team, elementary, middle, and high school. Thank you all for your continued support, assistance, and patience. The future burns brightly and I look forward to SY21-22 Athletic Programs and the next edition of the PSS/McDonald’s Athletics Championships,” he said.
