Chantel Aguon: A success story from WIA to SHEFA

This is a successful accomplishment for another Workforce Investment Agency trainee, as Chantel Aguon’s smooth transition took place effective January 2014 with the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance Program, under the Office of the Mayor.

Aguon, now a permanent employee of SHEFA, was trained as an office clerk through WIA’s Work Experience Program. In addition to work experience, Aguon was accorded the necessary tools for job-readiness through classroom-based training provided by Pinnacle Staffing, LLC. A combination of effective classroom training and hands-on experience at the workplace site opened the doors for an opportunity with SHEFA, one that Aguon is extremely grateful for.

She shared the following testimony: “On December 2012, WIA gave me the opportunity and tools to transition to Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance. Working at SHEFA under WIA has given me the opportunity to learn and apply skills learned while on WIA training. Knowing that this was my first time working, I thought that with no experience, I wouldn’t do well, but I did. SHEFA Administrator Merissa S. Rasa and administrative assistant Doreen C. Masga have been so helpful as both have taught me everything, and I am grateful. In January, I was converted to a permanent position as an office clerk at SHEFA and since then, work has been great.

“I would like to take this time to thank the WIA office and employees for helping me. This shows and proves that WIA is a great program to start with. Without them I would not have had this experience. Thank you once again!” (WIA)
