The Chamorro Optimist Club San Diego aims to build a permanent home to house the indigenous culture of Chamorros in the mainland.
Specifically, the club wants to build a replica of the home to Chamorros in Balboa Park, where nearly 14 million visitors venture to annually.
The House of Chamorros Foundation executive director J.R. So discussed this project with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres on Thursday.
The foundation’s goal is to fund raise $300,000. As of today, the foundation has raised $102,000 since May of 2016.
The foundation also earned $30,000 in private loans.
Torres, in partnership with the Marianas Visitors Authority, will discuss a commitment of $75,000. Guam has pledged $75,000 to the House of Chamorros.
The foundation still needs $46,000 more to get the project started.
