Chamber to host senatorial, delegate candidate forums

Share

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum for the senatorial race on Oct. 15 and another forum for the U.S. delegate candidates on Oct. 16. Both events will take place at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

Tickets are available in advance at the Chamber office on the third floor of the Marianas Business Center for $10 each. Tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event for $15 each. Attendees should arrive before 6pm as the doors will close promptly at 6:30. After the doors close, no one will be allowed to enter until intermission. There will be a 15-minute intermission in the middle of the forum.

These forums are conducted in the effort to help educate voters further on the issues of our islands by having the chance to hear differing opinions and solutions, and for those who wish to hear the various platforms of each candidate.

Each candidate will have a chance to answer questions submitted in advance by the general public. The response will be timed, and when each candidate has had the chance to speak, all candidates will then (in the same order) have a chance to make additional comments. Time limits will be enforced fairly and equally. No questions from the audience will be allowed at the event. Questions for the senatorial forum have already been collected. Questions for the U.S. delegate will be accepted through the end of business on Oct. 14. At the end of the event, each candidate will have the opportunity to make a closing statement.

In addition to these two forums, the Chamber will host a gubernatorial forum on Oct. 27, also at the Multi-Purpose Center. Questions for that forum will be accepted until Oct. 23.

Attendees are not allowed to carry banners, hold signs, or otherwise distract the speakers. Audience members may not display any promotional materials supporting any candidate, including but not limited to buttons, hats, T-shirts, etc. Other rules and procedures will be explained by the moderator at the start of the event.
