Organizers of the 4th Annual Saipan Chamber of Commerce Holiday Golf Tournament are hoping to draw as much as 100 players in tomorrow’s event set at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Course.
So far, some 50 players have already signed up for the two-person scramble. The tourney will have a 6am show time with a 7am shotgun start.
The Top 3 finishing teams in the Men’s Low Gross, Men’s Low Net, and Women’s Low Net will win cash prizes-$600 for the champion team, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place. Net scores will be calculated using the Double-Peoria scoring system.
Early registration costs $95 per player and takes place until only today, Dec. 16. The entrance fee increases to $105 per person on the day of the tourney.
Entrance fee is inclusive of the greens fee, complimentary prizes, and admittance into the awards banquet, which will be held poolside at COP immediately following the competition. Guest will be charged $20 per person at the banquet.
Proceeds of the event will go to the Chamber’s education committee to help provide $2,000 in scholarships to five worthy students and can be used at colleges in the CNMI or off-island.
Earnings will also help fund educational workshops that are conducted by volunteer Chamber members, which promote business etiquette.
There are a trio of hole-in-one prizes up for grabs, including a $25,000 cash prize sponsored by Bank of Hawaii on hole No. 12, a $10,000 cash prize bundle from AON Insurance and Takagi & Associates Inc., and a brand new Hyundai Accent from Triple J Motors on hole No. 14.
In addition, for $20, players can take part in the closest to the pin challenge on hole No. 7 and the long drive contest on hole No. 10.
Golfers can also purchase a pair of mulligans for $20, however they cannot be shared with their partners.
There will also be a multitude of raffle prizes to be given away during the awards banquet at COP immediately following the tournament; tickets cost just $1 apiece.
Last year, Jess Wabol and Bae Yong Man (62) came out as the Low Gross winners, while Ned Norita and Jesse Seman (68.4) took Low Net honors for the men, and Lorraine Babauta and Shirley Jones (72.8) won the Ladies Low Net category; 114 golfers turned out in last year’s event, which was held at Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
