Sixteen employees of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Community Guidance Center completed on March 2 and 4 the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support training that taught participants how to save a life in an emergency
The training was facilitated by Priority Care Services, and taught participants how to recognize life-threatening emergencies, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the AHA Chain of Survival, multi-rescuer resuscitation, how to relieve foreign-body airway obstructions, and other vital basic cardiovascular life support skills.

Participants included employees from the Behavioral Health Response Program, Disaster Response Program, the CNMI Suicide Prevention Program, and other Community Guidance Center employees.
As a result of this training, CGC employees learned life-saving strategies that can be utilized to improve overall patient care. Medical emergencies can happen to anyone, at any time, and range in severity from mild to life-threatening.
Trained employees can provide high quality CPR in the event of an emergency, leading to better treatment outcomes for clients. The strategies taught in the BLS training are applicable whether in the workplace or out in the community, and will provide temporary assistance to the individual in distress until additional help arrives.
