Commonwealth Football League Association official John Blanco is hoping former youth player Angel Terry’s career would further improve as he moves to the collegiate ranks.

Terry, who lived on Saipan before moving to Vancouver City in Washington State, is in his senior year with Hudson’s Bay High School Eagles. He was named the 2017 Class 3A Greater St. Helens League Big School Lineman of the Year in an article published in the Clark County Today. The former Saipan resident also earned First Team and All-League spots as a defensive lineman in his first season with the Eagles and helped his squad to a 5-4 record, their first winning season in more than 10 years.

Blanco said Terry’s size was one of his advantages aside from his work ethic, and overall attitude on and off the field.

“He did play here under the CFLA at the youth level with the Southern Thunder. He was definitely a big fish in a little pond even back then. Because of his size, he mostly played offensive line with the Southern Thunder, under his then head coach Jermaine Catching during his youth days.”

Blanco added that Terry also used to suit up for the CNMI Sharks when they played against the Philippines and Guam.

“He got to play a lot more defense when he joined the CNMI Sharks,” Blanco said.

“Without a doubt, and I feel his other coaches and teammates will also agree with me, that he is not only a great athlete on the field but a great person off the field as well. We are all proud of him and his accomplishments,” Blanco added.

Terry, who graduated at San Vicente Elementary School, started playing football while he was at the then Hopwood Junior High School, choosing the sport since he felt that he could be good at it in using his large frame. He now stands at 6’1’ and weighs 295 lbs.

The son of Akempek and Chombongkot Terry also studied at Marianas High School before moving to Washington State. He has applied to get into Portland State University where he also hopes to make it to the Vikings’ football squad just like another CNMI’s son, Savali Talalemotu.

“I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for believing in me that I can achieve something great,” said Terry.
