Central Statistics Div. has a new director
The Department of Commerce appointed its newest director who recently filled the extended vacant position for the director of Central Statistics Division.
According to Commerce Secretary Mark O. Rabauliman, since the departure of Alfonis M. Sound back in August 2015, the position has since remained vacant and managed by acting CSD director Tom A. Torres.
“We welcome our newly installed CSD director, Mr. Justin Andrew, under the Commerce management team. Mr. Andrew has been with the Central Statistics Division for over 10 years. I am confident that Mr. Andrew possesses the qualification to oversee and lead the daily operations of the division in addition to his expertise and vast knowledge within the division. I would also like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Tom Torres for all his hard work and services during his acting capacity as acting CSD director,” Rabauliman said.
Reiterating the importance of having a dedicated director, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres expressed that data collection supports the economic outlook for the Commonwealth.
“The Central Statistics Division is responsible for conducting all CNMI censuses and surveys and is the official lead on all government statistic data collection activities as mandated by Public Law 7-35 and filling this key position is welcoming news,” he said.
In recent months, CSD was tasked to produce and publish key social and economic indicators reports. In addition, the statistics office also acts as the point of contact for the administration and management of data collection activities between the local government and its federal counterparts on a wide variety of data needs.
