The Commonwealth Election Commission has already designated the polling sites on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota for the Nov. 3 general elections.

As this developed, Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force chair Warren Villagomez disclosed Friday that he is looking at elevating the level of precautionary measures that need to be adhered to at polling sites during election day.

On Saipan, the designated polling sites are the Koblerville Youth Center, Dandan Middle School, Saipan Southern High School, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Oleai Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Tanapag Youth Center, San Roque Elementary School, the Legislature, and Chacha Oceanview Middle School.

On Tinian, the designated polling place is the gymnasium. On Rota it’s the Northern Marianas College.

CEC executive director Julita A. Villagomez enumerated the designated polling sites over the weekend.

Speaking at a radio news briefing last Friday, Villagomez said the health standards that were set when the COVID-19 pandemic started and until Nov. 3 will not be loosened. Villagomez said actually he is looking at adding more personnel on Nov. 3 to make sure they have a person in each area voting site to monitor the safety measures in place.

“We need to stay on top of this and we need to pay attention to all the details because we’re also watching what’s happening down south,” Villagomez said, referring to Guam’s pandemic situation. “We want to make sure that everyone is safe. I hope that the general public understands.”

He said there are different strains of positive cases that they are seeing as well, so there might be some slight delays in the screening process as more questionnaires will be given to voters and there may be added layers to the health protocols. “So these are the things that we want to continue to share with the public and bring education to them and expect the unusual for this election at the polling places,” he said.
