CCA to host ‘Pinktober’ tonight
The Commonwealth Cancer Association will be hosting its annual “Pinktober” event tonight from 6pm to 10pm at the Hard Rock Cafe in Garapan.
The event, a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, costs $15 per ticket, which includes one drink.
According to CCA program manager Juan L. Babauta, the fundraiser will feature local artists and bands. A candlelight vigil will also take place tonight in commemoration of those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.
This is Hard Rock International’s 15th year to support cancer research through hosting the event with the Commonwealth Cancer Association and assisting the organization in procuring funds to fight the disease.
The non-profit organization has fervently advocated for cancer research in the CNMI and proves every year that the fight for a cure is far from over.
Babauta said the group’s mission is to “advocate for a cancer-free CNMI through public education and awareness about cancer prevention and screening, and to provide support for cancer patients, survivors and their families through community partnerships and programs.” The association provides clients up to $500 per year for qualifying expenses such as nutritional supplements, diapers, bed pads, prosthetic devices, and wound care supplies.
They have also participated in community events such as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
The group expanded its efforts in cancer education by conducting presentations in schools and community events to groups of all ages.
